Welcome back everyone! My projects this week entailed exploring vector based graphics. This is a method of creating images through a sequence of mathematical statements, thankfully there is software that can generate the math terms for the artist! The project was to create a couple logos for use on this blog. When I started this blog, I wished to focus on animation as this is the minor that I am perusing at the University of Toledo. Since logos are supposed to be basic and easy to remember, I tried to come up with basic concepts for animation. The first idea I had was based around the idea that whenever one creates a new scene in three dimensional animation software, there is a blank grid with a basic cube that. This is then molded into whatever the artists wishes. To encapsulate this idea, the first design is of a basic cube with a nondescript object being molded out of it, I attempted to shape this into the resemblance of a rabbit, couldn't get it turn out quite right so I just left it as a simple outline. I decided to leave the other sides of the cube the same color as the background as this reflects another fact about animation technology, the only part of the scene that is actually rendered is what is in direct view of the camera. My second idea was to create a coordinate plain as this is what all animations are based on, all objects are placed in the scene relative to their coordinates in the three dimensional world.
The Art of Game Design continues to be an intriguing read that surprises me in new ways with each chapter. Chapter 6 focuses on the importance that theme has on games and how theme should be treated in a game's design. Theme isn't just something that the player learns from the game, it is the thought or idea that the game should try to represent in every possible way it can. This chapter covers two forms of themes, experienced and resonant themes. Experienced themes are just that, the themes that are experienced by the player through the game's story and setting, however resonant themes are a bit different. Resonant themes are the ones that are below the surface and aren't really experienced but have some deep truth that parallels those truths that the player holds.
